There is an art to almost everything. When we think of art we think of paintings or photographs. We think of those ceramic vases or plates some of you might hang on your wall. Rarely do we think of art as a formula, but that’s exactly the way Da
Vinci saw it and Michelangelo. When you think things through and see it from all angles then you can create something beautiful. You can figure out the solutions to all of life’s problems. I was thinking about making an apple pie, but I didn’t feel like rolling out dough and I didn’t want to go to the store to get one of those store bought pie crusts. I also didn’t have any cookies to create a quick crust. What I decided to do was take a tortilla and line the pie plate. I then took a second tortilla and cut it in strips to create a lattice top. I scooped in the apple filling and placed my strips on top and then put it in the oven for 35 minutes. It smelled great and when I pulled it out it looked great. Today I will do a taste test.
Another dish that I prepared since it was so hot I decided to do something that would cool off the body. I boiled a dozen shrimp, made some rotini pasta and steamed some veggies. I let everything cool and placed it in the fridge until I was ready to eat. I placed the shrimp I a circle in the bottom of the plate. I then put in the veggies followed by the rotini. Then I poured ranch dressing on top. Just enough to coat it and then mixed it in. You can actually use any of your favorite salad dressings. It’s a great summer dish and it doesn’t take a lot of time.

Let's Talk Art
Art in itself is totally misunderstood. Its one of those things where you look at it, but for some it means nothing. For others it makes us smile, laugh, cry and think. We are amazed at some ancient art and wonder how time consuming and the genius that went behind such incredible works. The fact that pieces are still around that we can even have a look at the past is remarkable.
Recently I watched a program where a neurologist tried to figure out what makes someone create art the way that they do. It got me to thinking, but I just do stuff. I doodle and sometimes I see something in that doodle that later becomes and larger drawing. It then has a different life with broader detail. The doctor was studying more on body proportions and why certain areas are embellished than others. It’s all quite interesting when you think about it, but the bottom line is that we draw and create from what we know. We all see things differently and that’s what makes art so unique. When a group of people from the same community work on similar art they tend to look the same, but painters and sculptures work in different mediums and the results are different even if the painter paints the sculpture.
We all have different thought patterns and sometimes we are conditioned to like certain things, but every once in a while someone breaks that conditioning with no explanation and they create something that no one understands.
For me if it doesn’t raise a question, if it doesn’t make you feel something, if you don’t react then maybe it isn’t art, but then again, to quote myself, “Not everyone gets it.”

Addicted 2 Art, what's your addiction?
There is an art to arranging furniture. One has to look at the room and the furniture and see if it really works and how one can make it come together to make the best use of the space. I had my dinning table near the patio door because I also use the table as a desk and drawing table at times and I wanted the light to come through so I wouldn’t have to use any electricity. Of course you wonder should you place the sofa in front of the window, fire place or patio doors. If you place the sofa in front of the fire place you will have to move it during the winter where you use the fire place or not. It just seems proper to face the fire place during the winter. It also depends on whether you have a base at the bottom of the fire place or if its down to the floor. You also have to consider whether or not the window has a sill and if you use it for plants or little objects that you would want to be visible For me the perfect location was in front of the sliding patio doors and I could finally place the sofa table which I made behind the sofa. I can still look over the sofa and see into the back yard and its cozier than before.
I recently made some modifications to a coffee table that someone through out many months ago. I saw the potential in the table. I brought it inside and bleached it down. Then I tightened all of the screws and I went to Ikea and found some gray black and silver casters that look great on the black carpet. The baskets that hold magazines fits under the table and they match the table color. It just makes things easier to maneuver. I wish I could find some casters for the table in which my television sits. That would open up the room even more and I could wheel it out when needed. I’ll keep looking for the right table or get some help to see if there might be holes in the legs where I can install casters.
Once you move furniture around it changes your perspective and your mood when you enter the room. Organization is one key to creating a great living space and home.
