Images from Red Hot & Soul 2016 New York, New York

The event Co-Chairs were Bobbi Topfer, Will Coombes, Eric Copper, Richard Hartgrove, Gary Cooper, Dan Jackson, Jeremy Guiberteau, David Kurio, Lance Avery Morgan, Rob Giardinelli, Armando Zambrano and Bryan Gardner.

The images I am presenting here are to tell the story from start to finish. (Note: I am an artist that happens to take pictures) I believe in capturing an event in a way that those who were there can remember it and those who couldn't make it can see what it was like. Red Hot and Soul is the event of the year outside of the performances that ZACH puts on. It's purpose is to raise funds for the education programs. It also gives guests a chance to see what performances will be taking place for the remainder of the season and the new season.
Everything at ZACH is done by a team of talented individuals.(Kendra Dobson, House manager leads Volunteers to their posts for Red, Hot & Soul.)

(Kyle Sigrest Patron Services Manager, chats with Volunteers before guests arrive.)

(Executive Coordinator, Renelle Bedell at the registration table. A perfect profile).

( Dan Jackson and Jeremy Guiberteau two of the co-chairs of Red Hot & Soul)

(One of the Volunteers in red.)

(Zach staff converse with guests around some of the items up for auction.)

(Nathan, one of the Zach bartenders)

(Rachel Applegate, Chief Marketing and Community Engagement Officer, with Chad Dike Associate Director of Education.)

( Staff and Volunteers gather under the tent to great guests and give them their packets, which included seating numbers and auction numbers)

(Volunteers wait for guests to arrive)

(Charlie Fraser, Chief Development Officer and Cathleen Berdan, Special events coordinator checking things out before the event begins.)

(An overview of the tent and runway into the Topfer)

(Dee Clayes, one of the box office associates looking very fashionable.)

(Volunteers and Box Office staff under the tent where Guests make their first stop to sign in.)

(Beth Warren and other volunteers waiting patiently.)

(An artist drops off a painting for the auction)

(The Big Apple takes the mic. This is me just being creative.)

(Jennifer Young Mahlstead, Pre-Professional Manager walking the runway.)

(Cathleen Berdan, Brittney Woolley, Charlie Fraiser, Liana Putrino and Kimberly Sidey strike a pose.)

(Individual Giving Coordinator, Brittney Woolley walks the runway making final preparations.)

Thanks for stopping by; keep an open mind and do come back again to see more images from the event.

Happy Mardi Gras 2015

Here are some images from 2015 and past Mardi Gras' in New Orleans.
(The flamebeaux carrier goes back to the beginning of Mardi Gras as they used to light the path of the Krewe.)
(The lead float from the Krewe of Hermes.)
(From the Bourbon Street Awards when they were moved to St. Ann and Burgundy.)
(People come from all over to participate in Mardi Gras. Thaddeus had come in from Chicago.)
(One of the paper mache floats from the Krewe of Endymion from years past.)
(Often people will get together as a group and dress up.)
(One of my all time favorite images of a couple on Orleans. Who stopped to let me photograph them.)

The Story behind the photograph 2015 #1

Artography by Dlonzo
“It’s not just a Photograph, it’s Art!”

The Story behind the Photographs continues -  Many many years ago, I had an idea for a photo shoot in a cemetery. I had begun thinking about doing on location shoots. I believe it started when I was asked to do a wedding of one of my models, who also happened to be a cousin. Although the wedding ceremony photos were good, it was what I did after that was exceptional. It made me realize what type of work I could do. I don’t believe I had considered myself an artist at that point, but I was trying to create photographs I hadn’t seen in anyone home.

So, cut to 2012, I was talking with another artist and I mentioned that I wanted to do this shoot in this cemetery I had discovered. Of course the cemeteries in New Orleans are unique. I found something of interest here in Austin and we set up a day a time. When it comes to location shoots I like to get out early to have the place to myself.

I had an idea of what the look was to be, but as I’ve learned, things can change. I wanted it to look artsy and fashionable. There was one spot that reminded me of the tombstones in NOLA, but the camera wasn’t working with me. At the time I was still learning how to use the camera. I thought perhaps I had accidentally hit a button, but I couldn’t figure it out and I was getting frustrated. It turns out when the batteries are getting low, the zoom doesn’t allow for close ups to focus properly. I’m learning to get around that when I can. I can shoot at the best quality and then later crop the images to get in closer.

There are still a few minuses in working with digital, but the pluses out number them.

These are all of the images from the event. If your image doesn't appear here it is probably because you took a picture with your smart phone. Some pictures were taken, but the majority of people did take pictures with their smart phones. I took pictures because I was there and try to capture a moment that wasn't captured with the smart phones.

Images that are purchased will not have the tag on them.

Keep me in mind for any events you may be a part of. If you’d like to see samples of my work send me an email or look at my blog entries, The Story behind the Photograph.
